Description
There are many events in our national history that are not repeatedly subjected to scientific scrutiny, as the opinions formed about them in the past have spread and become common knowledge, regardless of their correctness or completeness. Such topics then take on a taboo character – there is no need to think about them, no need to evaluate them, no need to debate them, neither at an academic nor any other level. Fallacies are manifestations of a lack of critical thinking and aim to convince the other side of the correctness of the defended opinion at all costs, regardless of factual truth. One of these fallacies is argumentum ad populum, which could be expressed by the saying that the author used as the title of his book: Everyone knows that. In the book, the author presents seven topics from the first quarter-century of our republic's existence, whose prevailing interpretations have unfortunately stagnated in long-gone times, thus opening up space for questions about whether everything might have been somewhat different.
