1984, now a classic work of the dystopian genre, is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable novels of the 20th century and a brilliant analysis of all totalitarian systems. The "anti-utopia" also has its "anti-hero": he is Winston Smith, an ordinary, not very brave man, who desires nothing groundbreaking: he just wants to know the true, unmanipulated form of the past, to believe what he sees with his own eyes, and to have the freedom to assert that two and two are four... If the situation changes, an ally becomes an enemy and an enemy becomes an ally, Winston and other officials rewrite all articles that were published in the past. Big Brother never changes his decisions; he is always absolutely right. Similarly, forecasts of industrial production, war developments, etc., are rewritten.
