"I have dedicated my entire adult life to America without exaggeration," writes Ondřej Hejma, who has engaged with the country across the ocean as a student of Anglo-American studies, a translator, an Associated Press journalist, and a musician in the band Žlutý pes. In his latest book, he returns to the most dramatic moment he experienced on his American rollercoaster – the election of the 47th President of the United States.
His "dispatches," originally written for the readers of TO magazine, capture the authentic mood of those days when it was unclear until the last moment how everything would turn out. "In the last week of the election, I changed my opinion on whether Kamala or Donald would win about three times. I knew absolutely nothing, and I still don't," admits the author with his characteristic perspective. Ondřej Hejma captures facts and immediate impressions, but his texts about America also include romantic speculations and bold hypotheses. "It is up to the reader to judge how many times I was wrong and how many times I was right," adds the author.
