Description
The book by Ivo Strejček titled "It's Worse Than I Thought" is a selection of articles, interviews, and opinion pieces by the author from 2015 to 2018, published under the auspices of the Václav Klaus Institute (IVK). The former Member of the European Parliament and current member of the IVK board describes his motivation for the somewhat gloomy title of the book in the following words: "On April 15, 2019, part of the historic Notre-Dame Cathedral caught fire. Douglas Murray, a British journalist and author of the book "The Strange Death of Europe," commented on this sad event in Paris by saying that we will forever be remembered by history as the generation that lost Notre-Dame. I borrow Murray's opinion to emphasize that the alarming message of the anthology you are opening is a warning reminder that we are losing not only Notre-Dame but the entire civilization that Notre-Dame symbolizes, while pretending that we either do not see it, or that we do not care, or – unfortunately – that we welcome it. And that is why it is worse than I thought."
