Description
Twenty years after the signing of the Czech-German declaration is an opportunity to recall the document that fundamentally influenced post-November Czech-German relations. The Czech-German declaration represents a compromise, as the Czech and German perspectives on history will naturally always diverge. The declaration was a political, not a legal document. Its adoption was a significant success. Contributors to the anthology include Václav Klaus, Václav Pavlíček, Aleš Valenta, Rudolf Jindrák, Jiří Weigl, Jindřich Dejmek, Lukáš Novotný, Vladimír Handl, Václav Junek, and Ota Filip. The appendix contains the full text of the Czech-German declaration, Prime Minister Václav Klaus's speech at the signing of the declaration, the speech of the Czech Prime Minister in the Chamber of Deputies on February 11, 1997, Václav Klaus's recollection of Helmut Kohl, and eight photographs from the signing of the declaration.
