Description
This hardcover volume presents the third part of a study on the division and union of psychological opposites in alchemy. Marie-Louise von Franz (1915–1998), an expert in psychology and classical philology, worked with Jung from the 1930s on the depth-psychological interpretation of fairy tales and alchemical writings. She worked as a psychotherapist and became a lecturer at the C. G. Jung Institute in Küsnacht near Zurich in 1956. After Jung introduced her to Aurora consurgens, a work associated with Christian alchemy and traditionally attributed to Thomas Aquinas, she prepared it for a new edition, translated it and provided commentary. Following a detailed psychological analysis of the text, her concluding study also considers the much-debated question of its authorship. The work is characterised by a hermeneutic approach that brings to modern readers the symbolism used by its author “to describe or formulate a religious experience—or, psychologically speaking, the immediate experience of the unconscious.” The contents are in Czech.
