Description

In the second part of his major work, C. G. Jung continues his account of key alchemical symbols, including the king and queen, Adam and Eve, and the corresponding states in the human psyche. The book examines the final processes of transformation and the individual stages of conjunction, which accompany self-knowledge, the uncovering of projections and moral reintegration. Through its abundance of symbols, alchemy offers insight into the efforts of the human spirit, comparable to a religious ritual or the opus divinum. Unlike a collective, formal activity with strictly defined content, however, alchemical work is an individual action in which a person places their whole self on the scales in pursuit of a transcendent goal: establishing unity. It is a work of reconciling apparently incompatible opposites, understood not only as physical elements in natural conflict but also as a moral struggle. For the alchemist, the subject of the endeavour exists both outside and within, physically and psychologically, so the work extends across practically all of nature. Its aim lies in a symbol with both an empirical and a transcendent aspect. The contents are in Czech.
