Description

This Czech-language study presents Mysterium Coniunctionis, the three-volume work regarded as the most important and central achievement of C. G. Jung’s later years. The alchemical tradition enabled Jung to connect experiences and insights gained through his personal “descent into the unconscious” with objectively existing parallel material, while also linking his findings to the historical roots of European spiritual development. The volume examines the opposition and union of psychic elements, exploring the structure of the psyche and the way energy arises from tension between opposites. Jung explains that consciousness tends to seek clarity and definite decisions, while continually having to free itself from opposing arguments and tendencies; incompatible contents are often left in the unconscious or deliberately overlooked. Alchemists, with very few exceptions, did not realise that they were bringing psychological structures to the surface, believing instead that they were explaining material transformations. Their symbolic terminology, often resembling the language of dreams, thus reveals processes taking place within the psyche and gives alchemy particular importance for psychology.
