Description

In Greece during the age of heroes, Patroclus, an awkward young prince, is exiled to the kingdom of Phthia, where he lives overlooked in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden-haired son Achilles. Achilles, the best of all the Greeks, is everything Patroclus is not: strong, beautiful and the son of a goddess. Their paths should never have crossed, but Achilles takes Patroclus under his protection, and they soon become friends. They study the arts of war and medicine, and their bond develops into something much deeper, to the displeasure of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea nymph. When news arrives that Helen of Sparta has been abducted, the Greek men are called to war against Troy. Achilles joins, tempted by the promise of a glorious destiny. Patroclus, torn between love and fear for his friend, follows him to war without knowing what a merciless trial awaits them. This moving and original retelling of the Trojan War is a devastating story of love and rivalry between gods and humans, while its central struggle lies between ruthless ambition and the human heart’s longing for peace.
