Description
No year in Krauz's short detective career was as difficult as 1992. Security analysts claimed that the reckless post-revolution total amnesty was to blame, as it emptied prisons and filled the streets with violence. Krauz and his colleagues at that time ignored security analyses; they had their own work piled high. In the shadow of tumultuous events, the last federal crime that Krauz's murder department could legally investigate was committed quite inconspicuously and unnoticed – after that, Slovak and Czech police played in their own sandboxes. This crime occurred so subtly that hardly anyone noticed it and it almost gathered dust, yet even though it wasn't particularly brutal or complicated, it would be a shame to overlook it because it was quite something – if one can say such a thing about the burning of a young woman and her child.
