Description
Set in the evocative settings of Valencia and Lisbon, this novel by Stanislav Struhar presents a subtle, profound story of happiness and loss, family ties and separation. In lyrical prose, it explores with unusual empathy the lives of people from different nationalities and cultures in contemporary society. When Oskar loses his job in Vienna, he travels to see his father, who moved to Valencia some time ago. Oskar has suffered from his parents’ separation for years and has been a quiet loner since childhood. Just as he seems to have found happiness, he must leave Valencia. He arrives in Lisbon, captivated by the city’s beauty, but a new beginning continues to elude him. Before long, however, a new chapter of his life opens before him, filled with unexpected experiences. The novel is presented to Czech readers in a sensitive translation by Ingeborg Fialová-Fürstová.
