Description
This Czech-language novella takes readers to the beginning of the twentieth century, where it explores the conflict between two ways of life: one tied to a city undergoing rapid growth in the metallurgical industry, and the other rooted in the mountains and nature. Anton Rechtman is a master at the Martin furnace in Karlova huť, while his beloved, Tereza Foldynová, comes from the mountains above Staré Hamry. The narrative flows freely and is enriched by beautiful expressions from the Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek dialects. It also skilfully draws on Petr Bezruč’s powerful ballad Maryčka Magdonova.
