Following the religious diversity of antiquity in Europe, the Jewish-Christian idea of 'one God' prevailed, resulting in the separation of God from nature. Unilaterally sharp scholastic thinking consistently led to the Enlightenment and science. God thus became purely spiritual - unless declared dead - and nature pure matter. All spirits were banished from nature - even the spirit of man.
