Description
A university literature professor moves with his family to the countryside, where he plans to raise sheep. He leaves behind his life as a young urban intellectual to immerse himself in a completely different world – that of sheep – and discovers that forming a relationship with sheep can be as complicated as reading Proust. The book-diary captures brief reflections, at times almost existential musings based on stark reflections of everyday activities that are a necessary part of (rural) life, as well as contemplations on the psychology of a sheep flock. From the realization that what seems simple can actually be immensely complex and diverse, a new – yet ancient – wisdom of life emerges, unpretentious, devoid of any pomp, romance, and clichés. It is therefore somewhat surprising, but gradually becomes increasingly obvious. The wisdom of a person who thinks about life is born, yet stands firmly on the ground, so much so that they are not afraid to admit that perhaps it is not they who have the sheep, but rather the sheep that have them.
