Description
The first book in the trilogy by popular British children's author Diana Wynne Jones, which became the basis for the globally successful animated film released here as Howl's Moving Castle (directed by Hayao Miyazaki), is a story about human freedom and love. A girl named Sophie is cursed by the Wicked Witch of the Waste into becoming a frail old woman, who sets out into the world in search of happiness. She ends up in the home of the feared wizard Howl, in a castle that travels across the land. Sophie stays with Howl as a housekeeper and thus becomes embroiled in intricate and mysterious events and relationships. She falls in love with the beautiful young wizard, but breaking free from the power of a strong curse is immensely difficult. Whether she ultimately succeeds, we will not reveal to the reader.
