The comic, with autobiographical elements and a strong psychological undertone, takes place mainly in the 1980s and 1990s in Poland. Gradually, a view of life in the Polish countryside unfolds before us, which, while similar in many ways to the Czech experience, is also entirely its own and authentic. The story begins in the town of Wilczyn, or 'Wolf Town', where ordinary life almost daily intertwines with a magical dream world. In this town, meetings between the chairman of the communist party, a policeman, and a priest over a glass of vodka and pickles were commonplace. The town, where a little 'big' girl was born, provides the backdrop for an extraordinary story that can also be understood as a psychological probe into the often dark corners of souls tormented by depression and feelings of helplessness, into a world of quarrels, but also into a world of extraordinary adventures often accompanied by dark, even morbid humor. The story shows how early events, not only favorable and joyful but often also oppressive, threatening, and incomprehensible, shape our subsequent lives, the world around us, and ourselves.
