The aim of the Books of the Living is to reveal the true nature of our future destinies. What constitutes the essence of human life? How can we understand human consciousness and life as certain phenomena of nature? Is an individual's life temporary, or ultimately eternal? And how should we understand the significance of the words 'temporary' and 'eternal' when we speak of an individual's life? These are all ancient questions that the Books of the Living examine without prejudice and with fresh eyes, addressing them soberly based on what we know about nature and human consciousness and what we can reasonably deduce. The answers found reveal each of our lives as something that lasts more or less eternally and is, in fact, immortal, although this immortality differs in many ways from how it is represented by various religions, philosophical systems, and simple intuition. In pursuit of its goal, the Books of the Living inevitably encounter many partial problems, often those that human thought has grappled with for ages. Why does the world exist instead of there being nothing at all? Is the world temporary or eternal? What is the ultimate fate of the human species? In this case as well, the way the Books of the Living seek the correct answers is original, and the conclusions are undoubtedly interesting.
