Description

The novel Kurkul is a reconstruction of historical memory. All the adventures of the heroes were like temporarily hidden information printed in the author's subconscious, until one day the sentences began to assemble images on their own, giving birth to and reviving the past. The result is this novel, in which everything is true. Starting from the winter of the thirties, hundreds of thousands of farms were liquidated across the entire territory of the Soviet Union, people were deprived of bread and sent into exile in Siberia and the Far North. It was the last blow that the Soviets dealt to everything individual and private. Peasants, middle farmers were the last flicker of a person relatively independent of the Soviet state, so it was necessary to break them. Kurkul tells the story of the author's grandparents, who lived at the beginning of the last century in Slobodskaya Ukraine.
