This atlas aims to help dismantle the worldview inherited from colonial times, which has been etched into historical memory and continues to influence our perspective on the colonial era. It attempts to break free from traditional notions and offer a strictly scientific view of the development of colonial empires in time and space. You will find, for example, elaborated topics such as: How did colonies gradually cover almost the entire world? On what foundations were colonial empires built? Did they bring the expected profit? What was life like in the colonies, who collaborated with the colonizers, and who resisted them? What consequences did both world wars have on colonial empires? The atlas places colonialism within the history of the world and transcends the horizon of one or several specific colonial empires. It also addresses the smallest empires, which often existed only for a relatively short time (such as the German or Italian), as well as the oldest ones that emerged during the early modern period and survived into the observed period (Spanish, Portuguese, or Dutch). It does not overlook non-European colonial powers (the USA or Japan) and continental empires (the Russian and Ottoman).
