Mosques, minarets, spice bazaars, remnants of ancient monuments washed by turquoise waters, churches with radiant frescoes – just a mention of Turkey triggers a literally endless stream of exotic images in the mind, which ultimately surpass even reality itself. Nowhere else is the cultural wealth of this country, straddling Europe and Asia, more visible than in Istanbul, a city that spans both of these continents.
