This comprehensive university textbook, whose contents are in Czech, systematically explains the concepts and institutions of the Criminal Code, the Juvenile Justice Act and the Act on the Criminal Liability of Legal Entities. By combining explanations of the general and special parts of substantive criminal law, it offers a unified treatment of a fundamental field of the Czech legal system. Across 35 chapters, the authors cover all the essential institutions of substantive criminal law. In addition to analysing the current legislation, they critically address disputed and unclear questions in legal theory and practice, taking applicable case law from ordinary courts and the Constitutional Court into account. The textbook was prepared by a team of teachers from the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague, the Faculty of Law of Palacký University Olomouc, the Police Academy of the Czech Republic and the University of Finance and Administration, under the leadership of criminal-law expert Prof. JUDr. Jiří Jelínek, CSc. For the ninth edition, the text was updated to 11 February 2025 to reflect several important amendments to the Criminal Code, developments in European law, new case law and changes to non-criminal legislation. It is intended for university students and those working in legislative or legal practice, but is also useful to anyone seeking a quick overview of constantly changing legislation.
