This Czech-language ninth, updated edition of the criminal code and code of criminal procedure reflects the law as it stood on 1 September 2022, incorporating numerous amendments and newly published case law. Notes on both codes make it easier to find and understand the relevant provisions. The latest edition doubles the monetary thresholds for the extent of damage caused by a criminal offence and introduces a new punishment prohibiting the possession and breeding of animals. It also takes the offender’s attitude during criminal proceedings into account when sentencing, establishes the institution of a declaration of guilt and expands the possibilities for plea bargains. Many other changes are included as well. The cited decisions are drawn mainly from the collections of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court. The publication also contains related legislation: the Juvenile Justice Act, the Act on the Criminal Liability of Legal Entities and the attorney tariff, all in the wording effective on 1 September 2022. It serves as a practical aid for judges, lay judges, public prosecutors, police officers, criminal investigators, attorneys, in-house lawyers and other legal professionals.
