Description
If a historian's ambition is to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the life of the medieval person, who was anchored in the customary legal culture of their time, it is understandable that law and its rituals come into focus. Ritual acts exerted normative pressure on society and co-shaped people's perceptions of what was once seen as right and just. In this book, the choice of topic falls on the so-called ochoz and objezd during the Přemyslid era. As we will attempt to show, these were customarily observed pedestrian or horseback processions, taking place ceremonially before the eyes of an audience from near and far. The aim of organizing them was to ascertain and secure the utmost limit within which it was permitted to exercise dominion or ownership rights over a formally delineated territory.
