Description
The book deals with the phenomenon of so-called zonal processes with Nazi criminals, which were conducted by the individual victorious powers in their occupation zones of divided Germany and which still somewhat unjustly remain overshadowed by the more well-known main Nuremberg trial. Within the framework of post-war zonal justice, almost all individuals co-responsible for previously unimaginable Nazi crimes were tried, whether they were leading figures of the regime, industrialists who profited from Nazi aggression, doctors who abandoned all ethical principles of their profession and entered the service of a perverse ideology, personnel of concentration camps, or ordinary, politically uninvolved Germans who, under the influence of pseudo-philosophical Nazi theories, committed the most horrific crimes. However, the examination of zonal processes does not only represent the functioning of Germany during Hitler's rule, but also the approach to justice, ideological grounding, and post-war political direction of the individual victorious powers. The developments in the occupation zones and the relationships at that time between the United States, the Soviet Union, France, and Great Britain seem to foreshadow events in the second half of the 20th century in Europe and the world.
