This unique publication provides insight into Italian ski law with an emphasis on the safety of ski resorts and the operation of winter sports on snow, particularly in their recreational form. The monograph systematically maps the development of legal regulations concerning the safety of winter sports, focusing on skiing from the 1960s to the present day. It also includes a description of the creation of the FIS Rules, a globally recognized code of conduct for skiers, which was developed in Italy. Special attention is given to the current legal regulations following its extensive amendment (D. Lgs. 40/2021), effective from January 1, 2022, which brings significant changes and is therefore analyzed and commented on in detail. In the next section, the author addresses the decision-making practices of Italian courts, citing the most significant case law, particularly regarding liability for damages incurred during the operation of winter sports. The study also presents current doctrinal perspectives and possibilities for harmonizing ski law in EU countries.
