Deutsche Rechtssprache – Girmanová Jana (2021)

The textbook of legal German is primarily intended for law students, applied linguists, lawyers, interpreters, and translators. Its aim is to provide students with the foundations of legal German for their future professional development while also improving their preparation for studies at law faculties in German-speaking countries. The individual lessons include textbook texts, authentic legal texts, and case law from German courts, which allow students to master legal concepts in systemic contexts, understand more complex texts, and reproduce simplified versions of texts at a very good level. The texts are supplemented with exercises that develop not only passive but also active skills (speaking and writing) in a legal context. Cases and thought-provoking questions support students' legal reasoning and allow for comparisons between German and Czech legal regulations in the German language. To facilitate working with the texts, the textbook includes small excursions into grammar (phenomena typical for legal language and different from general language, or going beyond the teaching of general language in high schools), to which exercises for practice are attached.
