Description
The European Union requires member states' administrations, among other things, to be able to formulate their own positions on EU initiatives, advocate for them in negotiations within EU institutions, and implement EU regulations in their domestic environments. The Europeanization of state administration often transforms the internal structure of domestic ministries and other state bodies, their decision-making procedures, and communication with other political actors. This publication examines the changes caused in Czech state administration by EU membership through the example of four Czech institutions (the Office of the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports). The book demonstrates how each of the examined institutions has adapted to Europeanization in different ways, reflecting their own institutional history and the differences in the agenda they deal with at the EU level. The authors' team of the publication works at the Department of European Studies at Charles University.
