The international scientific interdisciplinary collective monograph aims not only to analyze the current legal regulation in the Czech Republic and Slovakia but also contains numerous suggestions and impulses for improving the current Czech legal regulation. This is important from the perspective of the future recodification of Czech procedural criminal law. While in 2019 our attention was focused on the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the new Czech Criminal Code (Act No. 40/2009 Coll.), this year we continue with discussions dedicated to procedural issues. It is not just a reminder of the basic principles of criminal proceedings, those building blocks on which the structure of the Criminal Procedure Code stands, but we also pay attention to the current well-known issue – the problem of wiretaps, specifically the inadequate legal regulation of the so-called spatial wiretapping in the Criminal Procedure Code. The thematic breadth of the protection of rights and freedoms in procedural criminal law is diverse. It includes not only the accused's right to appeal decisions in criminal matters, the prohibition of self-incrimination in criminal proceedings, interventions in personal freedom when replacing detention with electronic monitoring, but also the limits of decisions regarding the securing of property in criminal proceedings or the participation of authorized persons, representatives, and guardians in the proceedings...
