The monograph outlines the starting points of the legal regulation of social work in the area of child and youth care in Slovakia during the interwar period of the Czechoslovak Republic. It observes the emergence of a new institutional basis in the field of child and youth care and attempts to coordinate or remedy this truly urgent social problem in Slovakia, through the work of a youth social care instructor in Bratislava under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Care. It analyzes the activities of municipalities and political administration bodies, particularly guardianship offices, and after the 1931 reform, guardianship courts and their fundamental competencies in relation to the protection of the interests of children and youth. A significant shift from the previously adopted Hungarian model is seen in the state's efforts to expand voluntary association activities in the field of child and youth protection – supporting the activities of the Czechoslovak Red Cross, the Regional Central Office for Youth Care, and local associations (District Youth Care – OPM – emerging based on Czech and Moravian models).
