We encounter the concept of secrecy in a legal sense surprisingly often in everyday life. This unique publication presents the legal regulation of the institute of secrecy in the area of Czech private and public law. In 11 chapters, it discusses the obligations that individuals and institutions have in connection with the protection of secrecy, as well as the rights that arise in connection with the protection of secrecy, and the means by which these rights can be enforced. In addition to traditional institutes such as trade or banking secrecy, attorney-client privilege, postal and transported message secrecy, and medical secrecy, the book also includes chapters dedicated to criminal law protection of secrecy and the conditions under which no one can be compelled to disclose certain information to public authorities. In a special chapter, readers are guided through the case law concerning the protection of information sources in the media and the latest regulations regarding what secrets can or cannot be kept in family relationships.
