The Battle of Znojmo, fought between July 10 and 11, 1809, was one of the most important clashes of the War of the Fifth Coalition, during which the Austrian army faced off against the French Grande Armée for the umpteenth time. Over 100,000 men fought in it, and it became the final battle of the war. However, the Battle of Znojmo is fascinating for many other reasons. From a purely military perspective, it deserves attention simply due to the ferocity with which it was fought, its duration, the enormous number of men involved, and the dramatic ending, when the fighting was interrupted by a sudden and unexpected ceasefire. Despite this, it remains virtually unknown to the general public. This book aims to change that.
