Pověsti z jihozápadní Moravy – Göth Ignaz (2021)

Foreword to the Czech edition In December 1927, a working group focused on the local history of the Znojmo region (Arbeitgemeinschaft für Heimatkunde im Znaimer Ländchen) was established within the teachers' association Znaim-Land. Right from January, it began publishing a monthly magazine called Unsere Heimat as an attachment to the Znaimer Wochenblatt newspaper. Another of its initiatives was the preparation of a book of legends from southwestern Moravia, which was published in Znojmo in 1929. The book gathered both previously published and newly collected legends from various individuals, often teachers. The book was prepared for publication by teacher Ignaz Göth (*1889–1945†). Göth, who was transferred to Znojmo in 1927, had shown great interest in local history even in his native Jihlava. He also contributed to the publication of several other smaller publications related to the Znojmo region and led a local history monthly for youth, Südmährens Deutsche Jugend, for five years. When the book of legends was published, there were plans for a further supplemented edition, which ultimately did not occur. The book has not yet been published in its entirety in Czech, but individual legends can be found printed in various other collections of legends.
