Description
The third volume of the Battles and Fates of Warriors project continues from the Wars of Religion and the four-volume Knights' Battles and Fates, and to a large extent, it also connects to the second part, titled Struggles for the Throne. It begins with the Battle of White Mountain (and through the fates of the three main protagonists of the so-called Czech War 1618-1620, Buquoy, Thurn, and Mansfeld) the thirty-year European conflict. The Thirty Years' War continues with the famous sieges of Breda and La Rochelle, depicting the life stories of the imperial generalissimo Tilly, one of the most colorful personalities of that time, not overlooking the sacking of Magdeburg, and through the Battle of Breitenfeld, it reaches the battle at Lützen, undertaken by Wallenstein, in which the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf fell. It continues with the 'Battle of Two Ferdinands,' the key defeat of the Swedes at Nordlingen, the French entry into the war, and the Battle of Rocroi, which became the swan song of the Spanish tercios. Finally, it returns to Bohemia for the Battle of Jakub, the least bloody clash and the largest battle at the end of the Thirty Years' War 1618-1648.
