Description
The collection of chapters reflects the state of knowledge about heredity that genetic science has reached over the last decade, during which it has gradually penetrated practically all clinical fields, firmly establishing itself as an integral part of them. Predominantly, understandably, in diagnostics, as our genome is crucial for the state of health and disease, both at the level of the individual human and the human population, as well as at the level of its basic components, i.e., cells. Alongside obstetricians and pediatricians, it is general practitioners who stand on the front lines of the healthcare system, making crucial decisions about the processes that patients will enter. In recent years, we have even begun to attempt its modification through so-called gene editing. And although it has not yet become a common clinical application, it is likely that this long-held dream of genetic engineering will eventually be fulfilled, allowing us to add therapy to diagnostics.
