This Czech-language book presents an extensive and candid interview with Petr Linhart, a Czech singer-songwriter, composer, lyricist, creator of timetables and seeker of stories hidden in the landscape. One of the most distinctive yet modest figures on the Czech music scene of the past four decades, Linhart brings the lives of long-forgotten ordinary people into songs that endure. Tomáš S. Polívka discusses his beginnings in Jaroslav J. Ježek’s legendary Čp.8, the dreamlike, timeless worlds of Majerovy brzdové tabulky and his solo career, in which he became an unmistakable epic storyteller. The conversation explores music, poetry, the borderlands and Sudetenland as an inexhaustible source of inspiration, forgotten lives, faith, places of prayer, prehistory, the Middle Ages and the nineteenth and twentieth centuries reflected in his songs. It also covers his collaborations with other musicians, songs written for Jan Spálený and his transition from band member to solo artist. Linhart recalls an era of borrowed records, tapes copied at night and musical worlds born from a few bars recorded from the radio.
