Česká rocková alba 2 - Nahrávky z let 1968-1986 – Riedel Jaroslav (2025)

Jaroslav Riedel’s extensive study offers detailed commentary on four dozen original Czech rock albums and more than twenty compilations of singles, radio and concert recordings released over the decades. It covers major names in rock history, including Michal Prokop and Framus Five, Blue Effect, Flamengo, Vladimír Mišík and Etc…, Jiří Schelinger, Katapult and Progress Organization, as well as less frequently mentioned but equally important groups such as Bluesmen, Rebels, Blues Band and Čundrgrund. Jazz-rock formations including Energit, Bohemia, Impuls and Combo FH are also represented, along with solo records by Luboš Andršt, Emil Viklický and Marthy Elefteriadu. Following his 2024 book Česká rocková alba - Zákazům navzdory 1969-1989, which focused on the underground and alternative scene, Riedel presents another information-rich encyclopedia of its kind, while placing special emphasis on the stories of the albums and their creators, many of them complicated and dramatic. Drawing on personal interviews with almost one hundred musicians and extensive research in period newspapers, he has gathered much previously unknown and unpublished information. The book portrays a difficult era when rock meant a great deal to young listeners and musicians faced intense pressure, yet needed immense inner determination to record albums now regarded as classics.
