Description
The eighth edition of the basic textbook by Professor MUDr. Zdeněk Ambler, DrSc. (1940–2013), is intended for undergraduate education of medical faculty students. It builds on previous editions that have been repeatedly tested in practice and have become a popular teaching text not only at the Plzeň faculty. Considering the dynamic development of neurology in recent years, the co-authors decided to publish the book again and update it. They retained the structure and overall scope, revised some chapters, and added new insights in others. The text is clear, factual, and concise, covering all essential aspects of clinical neurology and is supplemented with more than one hundred and fifty illustrative images. The issues of neurology are divided into two parts for didactic reasons – general and special. General neurology briefly reviews basic neuroanatomy and physiology and discusses the symptoms and syndromes associated with the involvement of individual structures and systems of both the central and peripheral nervous systems. Propedeutics describes the specific procedures for neurological examination, including the basic examination of patients in a coma and the examination of newborns and infants. Special neurology deals with individual nosological units, or rather nosological groups.
