Description
František Koukolík's new book, Resilience, is aimed at a broader audience and discusses chronic psychosocial stress that everyone encounters in life. Its causes can be objective: poverty, war, or natural disasters. Among the subjective causes of stress in children are family breakdown, abuse, or bullying. In adulthood, any one of us can face serious illness, job loss, homelessness, divorce, or the death of a loved one at any time. In old age, the likelihood of illness increases, and one must also come to terms with the inevitable conclusion of life. A portion of the population succumbs to chronic stress, as evidenced by the consumption of cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, psychotropic medications, obesity, the prevalence of depression, and suicides. Coping with chronic psychosocial stress, which is currently rising rapidly, is necessary and challenging. Resilience is key. We cannot influence our genetic makeup; everything else can be understood and, with great and very long-term effort, at least corrected so that we do not stumble over stress daily. This book discusses resilience and how it can be increased. We will need it. CONTENT: Foreword * 1. Definition * Broad definition of resilience * Some other definitions of resilience *…
