Description
This Czech-language professional book explains the theoretical foundations of massage, including its clinical applications, for physiotherapists, masseurs and related fields. The second, revised and expanded edition is based on knowledge of anatomical structures and follows their functional physiological and pathophysiological aspects. These explain the principles of massage and offer guidance on clinical conditions in which massage is beneficial or not recommended. The book adds descriptions of further types of massage, including Asian techniques, some of which are assessed critically, as well as general information about tissues whose changes affect movement. The chapter on the muscular system includes practical information, and the descriptions of individual muscles are enriched with physiological details concerning muscle damage and the subsequent development of paralysis. These additions are accompanied by advice on appropriate and inappropriate massage techniques. The book also includes a chapter on the anatomy of entrapment syndromes and an expanded section on neuroanatomy. New findings are illustrated with clear drawings and numerous photographs of anatomical specimens and selected clinical disorders, while the references include important new works by Czech and international authors.
