Description
Between February 2019 and November 2020, musician David Stypka published poems on Instagram, usually accompanied by an illustration or photograph. In response to various moments, they formed a kind of diary made up of observations, comments and feelings. He planned to publish them as a collection under the title Kráky, but did not live to complete its final form. His colleague and friend Kateřina Marie Tichá sensitively prepared the collection for publication according to his intentions, while the graphic design by Luděk Kubík helps complete the unfortunately closed body of work of this singer-songwriter. David Stypka (1979–2021) was a poet, musician, acclaimed composer and writer from Dobrá near Frýdek-Místek. After secondary school, he worked among other things as a journalist, editor, typesetter and graphic designer for regional newspapers. He had been active on the music scene since the mid-1990s, performing with the bands MGH and Najzar. He later created the solo YouTube project Wake Up Songs, which eventually led to the formation of David Stypka a Bandjeez. With the band, he recorded the album Čaruj in 2015. His second album, neboj., earned prestigious Anděl and Žebřík awards as well as the Jantar Awards of the Moravian-Silesian Region. The third studio album, Dýchej, was released in 2021 alongside this collection of his poetic texts. Bandjeez continues to commemorate David’s exceptional work and preserve his legacy through the project Dělám, jako že je.
