Pediatric neurology emerged as a separate field more than sixty years ago, yet quality original textbooks in the Czech language are relatively rare. The publication Pediatric Neurology is intended for both pediatric neurologists and pediatricians, as well as adult neurologists interested in the topic, and can also be used for the certification preparation of doctors specializing in pediatric neurology in the Czech and Slovak Republics. The monograph is divided into 21 chapters covering the basic principles of examination, diagnosis, and treatment of pediatric neurological disorders, as well as specialized examinations (neurophysiology, imaging methods, and basics of genetics). A special section focuses on congenital developmental malformations, hereditary metabolic diseases, storage disorders, and leukodystrophies, degenerative diseases of the basal ganglia, cerebellum, spine, and peripheral nerves. Neuromuscular diseases, inflammatory and neuroimmune disorders, and paroxysmal diseases – epilepsy, sleep disorders, and headaches – are discussed in detail. Attention is also given to trauma issues, current advances in the diagnosis and treatment of central nervous system tumors, and toxic damage to the nervous system.
