The main characters in Miroslav Kemel's jokes are, at first glance, bears, hares, and politicians. Although, to be fair, bats have now also joined them, it's all a bit different. In reality, we ourselves are the main characters; it's our world, our elected politicians, our messes, and our joys. Only the bears and hares were here before us. Czech cartoon humor has a famous history, a good reputation in the world, and today also beloved and unforgettable legends. After 1990, Miroslav Kemel (*1963) continued the tradition of the best, choosing perhaps the most challenging area: political caricature. He comments on current events with a simple pen. Drawings have been disappearing from printed media for years and have moved to the internet. Many of us, however, uphold the tradition: here too, we first look for a typical Kemel drawing in the news summary, so that, vaccinated with humor, we can dive into reading. It is generally known that caricature aims to criticize, to point out problems and the bizarre decisions of politicians, to poke fun at their stupidity, cunning, or arrogance. But why is Kemel's caricature so precise, so apt, and why does it have so many fans?
