The title of the memoirs by the poet, prose writer, and songwriter Jan Burian (born March 26, 1952) "What I Haven't Forgotten" suggests a certain affinity with his earlier text "Faster Than I Forget." Between 1982 and 1985, Jan Burian kept private notes, which he published in samizdat. Given the fact that the text could end up in anyone's hands, the author had to omit certain things to avoid causing problems for many people with the then state authorities. Also - as he admitted years later - he sometimes focused on things that had already lost their significance, and he viewed some matters differently at that time, perhaps even a bit superficially. The slim book concluded with the breakup of the former folk duo Burian-Dědeček and was officially published only in 1990 as the first volume of the Traverza series by the Scéna publishing house. After thirty-five years, Jan Burian returned to these memoirs, supplemented and significantly expanded them, especially with authentic notes from the 1980s, a joyful time when the regime was collapsing. A time that has already been described from the perspective of a dissident, politician, or official, but this time it is from the perspective of a songwriter.
