Description
The book-length interview between editor and journalist Jan Šulc (* 1965) and songwriter, poet, prose writer, journalist, author of children's books, and translator Jiří Dědeček (* 1953) maps his life from birth to the present. The book captures memories of dozens of significant personalities with whom Jiří Dědeček has encountered throughout his life, reviving his childhood in Karlovy Vary, his successful years as a junior national rowing champion, his high school years in Malá Strana, his studies at Charles University, playing and performing together with Jan Burian from 1973 to 1984, military service, trips abroad, work as an interpreter at the Prague Information Service, and his solo career since 1985. Attention is given to Dědeček's family, close friends, his involvement in November 1989, and his role as the chairman of the Czech Centre of the International PEN Club. A lot of space is devoted to Dědeček's work (poetic word, music). The interview includes several thematic chapters and key song lyrics by Dědeček. The book also contains a photographic supplement, a complete discography and bibliography of Dědeček, and extensive indexes of people and titles.
