At the beginning, there was an old, chipped guitar. And two friends who dreamed up a book about the life of one of their famous uncles. They connected imaginary strings, trying to play that silent instrument. As the characters increased, so did the number of authors. A unique collection of interviews emerged, a kind of cubist portrait from which a colorful picture of the fate of singer KARL ZICH and the people around him can be assembled. One of the biggest stars of Czech pop music died prematurely at the age of just fifty-five. Colleagues, relatives, and friends remember him fondly without exception. And also with a sad smile, because the decent and easy-going man, a great dad and a musician from God, Karel Zich could and should have been here for a long time... The book Twelve Strings of Karel Zich, penned by Michal Bystrov, Marta Bystrová, and Zdeněk Hazdra, would not have come into being without the close cooperation of all living members of Zich's family. They deserve great thanks, and without them, even the CD full of audio treasures from the singer's estate would not have seen the light of day. Karel Zich comes alive on the pages of this book through the valuable and unique narratives of both his wives, Nataša and Jana Zichová, his children Adéla and Karel, as well as his sister-in-law Dagmar and nephew Otakar.
