Since the 1980s, idiopathic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), which include Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, have gradually come to the attention of gastroenterologists. Until then, these relatively rare diseases were characterized by a chronic course, the necessity for repeated surgical interventions, limited response to medication, and an overall uncertain prognosis, placing them somewhat on the periphery of specialists' interest. In the field of idiopathic inflammatory bowel diseases, we are witnessing a turbulent development of knowledge, with the rapid implementation of findings into clinical practice in recent years leading to significant and interesting advances in both diagnosis and therapy. Consequently, there is also a growing interest among professionals in this issue. The monograph "Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Idiopathic Inflammatory Bowel Diseases" summarizes the experiences of doctors from the Clinical and Research Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases at the ISCARE Clinical Center, a partner institution of the 1st Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague, which has been operational since 2007, monitoring over 6,000 patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and where over 1,200 patients are treated with biological preparations.
