Description
This Czech-language monograph is the first original Czech work devoted to lymphology. With many interdisciplinary connections and overlaps, it is compiled by the leading anatomist and surgeon Professor Oldřich Eliška of the Department of Anatomy at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague. Drawing on the author’s lifelong work and research, the book summarises the fundamental theoretical knowledge of the field and shows how it can best be applied in everyday clinical practice. Individual chapters cover the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the relevant structures, while others examine damage to the lymphatic system caused by tumours, metastasis and inflammation. The book also addresses diagnosis and conservative, surgical and pharmacological treatment, with a substantial section devoted to lymphoedema. Knowledge of lymphology forms the basis for treating diseases originating in the lymphatic system, which plays a key role in human immunity and therefore has a significant influence on health, longevity and survival. The subject is presented in an accessible and clear form for doctors in various medical disciplines, and the text is supplemented by numerous professional anatomical illustrations, photographs and other visual documentation.
