Michal Jupp Konečný (* August 6, 1942 in Prague) was involved in nearly everything that has moved our folk and country music over the past half-century. He was at the birth and functioning of nineteen crucial editions of the Porta festival (1971–1989), nearly twenty Švojšice Solstices and Letorosts, a series of Strážnice Gardens, twenty-four Folk Roses, and many others. In the 1970s, he led the Malostranská beseda in Prague, and in the 1980s, he transformed the Na Petynce club into a prominent scene for both tramp and folk music. After 1989, he founded and led twenty-one editions of the magazine FOLK & COUNTRY. Jiří Černý wrote about him: "Jupp makes Jupp with openness to all genres, including liquids, the art of leaving, and overall impartiality, a bulldog tenacity in the main matters and phlegmatic in those he considers secondary..." Only the Konečný family knows how many hours, nerves, and exhausting negotiations go into each concert or festival. This book is not a history of Czech folk, let alone Jupp's educational dictionary. The author has successfully attempted to create a collage of events, meetings, insights, and fragments that have intertwined over decades.
