Life... and poetry...? was the title of a long-running column by Mirek Kovářík, in which he published his texts about poetry, Czech, Slovak, and foreign poets, about his radio shows Zelené peří and Poetické nokturno, about significant moments in Czech poetry, about poetry theaters, and the interpretation of poems. The book as a whole is a wonderful introduction to reading Czech poetry, a passionate defense of the "poetic principle" (in the words of Ivan Diviš), and an irreplaceable testimony to more than fifty years of life with poetry and for poetry. It is a lively and readable book, especially intended for young people, for whom poetry is an invaluable guide on their journey through life. The texts were selected and prepared for publication by Jan Šulc in collaboration with the author.
