Contemporary medicine seeks not only to fulfill its therapeutic role but also to prevent diseases and is actively searching for their causes. Prevention primarily relies on diagnostics. Such diagnostics can often alert to dangers even before a disease breaks out. The aim of this publication is to offer the reader a contemporary view of the possibilities that current diagnostics provide in various areas of our genetic makeup, so that medicine can strive to avert the consequences of the fact that our genome is not perfect and likely contains, alongside 'suitable' information, also those that can adversely affect human health.
